Every company has a beginning.
Some begin with fireworks.
Others begin with lessons.
For Low Miles No Miles Auctions, ours began with a 13,000-mile 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4×4.
On paper, it was exactly the kind of vehicle our community loves. A remarkably preserved GMT800 with only 13,000 original miles. The kind of SUV enthusiasts spend years hoping to find.
But what made this auction special wasn’t the Suburban.
It was the man who trusted us with it.
Believing Before There Was Proof
Long before Low Miles No Miles had an auction platform, before we had a million followers, and before anyone knew whether this idea would even work, there were people cheering us on.
Brad Wangler was one of those people.
He had watched LMNM grow from its earliest days, believing in what we were trying to build when all we had was a vision.
So when it came time to launch our very first auction, Brad didn’t just list a vehicle.
He put his trust in us.
Not only did he list the pristine 13,000-mile Suburban with no reserve, but later entrusted us with another incredible survivor a 2,000-mile 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 that ultimately sold for $34,900.
That kind of trust isn’t something we take lightly.
The Excitement… and the Reality
Anyone who has ever launched something new knows the feeling.
Weeks of preparation.
Photography.
Marketing.
Social media.
Phone calls.
Text messages.
Answering questions.
Making sure every little detail is right.
Then the auction goes live.
The bidding starts.
The excitement builds.
When the hammer finally fell, the Suburban had sold.
Our very first auction.
Our very first successful sale.
It should have felt like pure celebration.
Instead, there were mixed emotions.
Brad had hoped the truck would bring around $30,000, and although the auction was successful, it came up about $1,700 short of where he wanted to be.
As a brand-new platform, we took that personally.
Even though Brad understood exactly what a no-reserve auction meant, we couldn’t help but feel disappointed for him.
So we made him an offer.
We told him we’d cover the difference ourselves.
Not because we had to.
Because we genuinely wanted him to walk away feeling good about taking a chance on us.
What Happened Next Meant Even More
The next morning, Brad politely declined.
Instead, he left a comment on one of our Facebook posts that every member of our team will probably remember for a long time.
He talked about watching LMNM grow from the beginning.
He spoke about believing in what we were building.
He acknowledged that going no reserve on a brand-new auction platform was a gamble, and that he fully understood the risks involved.
Then he said something that stuck with us.
He explained that our disappointment over the result only showed how much we cared.
He reminded us that the auction itself had been executed flawlessly, from the photography and communication to the marketing and the website experience.
He thanked us for treating him like more than just another seller.
And despite our offer to make up the difference, he refused to accept a dime.
Instead, he wished us success.
Sometimes Success Doesn’t Look Like You Expect
Looking back now, that auction wasn’t a failure.
It was exactly the opposite.
It proved something far more important than a sale price.
It proved that relationships matter.
It proved that transparency matters.
It proved that treating people the right way still matters.
Since then, we’ve gone on to sell everything from ultra-low-mile survivor cars to celebrity-owned vehicles, including Stone Cold Steve Austin’s 1987 Toyota Pickup, and we’ve watched our auction platform continue to grow with every passing month.
But none of those sales happen without the first one.
Without someone willing to believe before there was proof.
Thank You, Brad
Brad, thank you for taking a chance on us.
Thank you for trusting a brand-new auction platform when there were plenty of established places you could have listed your Suburban.
Most of all, thank you for reminding us that this business isn’t just about collector cars.
It’s about people.
The 13,000-mile Suburban will always hold a special place in LMNM history.
Not because it was our first auction.
Because it reminded us exactly the kind of company we want to be.
And that’s a lesson worth far more than $1,700.
