18K-Mile 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander
Overview
Description
There are Low Miles No Miles Jeeps...and then there are the ones that remind you why everyone fell in love with Wranglers in the first place. This 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander is one of those Jeeps, showing just 18,581 miles and finished in the unmistakable Malibu Yellow color that has become synonymous with one of Jeep's most recognizable special editions.
Vehicle Overview
Finished in Malibu Yellow over a Gray interior, this 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander is powered by its original 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a factory 5-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drive. The odometer currently shows just 18,581 miles.
Few special editions capture the spirit of the late 1980s quite like the Islander. Bright colors, bold graphics, and open-air fun made these Wranglers stand out when new, and today they've become some of the most desirable YJ models among collectors.
According to the seller, this example remains completely stock and retains its original paint. It has reportedly been garage kept since new and was acquired earlier this year from the collection of a dealer who is said to have owned it since new. A new soft top has recently been installed while preserving the Jeep's otherwise original appearance.
Story
Some vehicles become collectible because they were rare.
Others become collectible because almost nobody thought to save them.
The Wrangler Islander falls somewhere in the middle.
Built to be enjoyed with the top down and the doors off, most spent their lives exploring trails, beaches, hunting camps, or simply serving as dependable weekend toys. It's uncommon to find one that escaped decades of modifications, oversized lifts, or rust.
According to the seller, this Jeep spent its life tucked safely indoors before joining a private collection, helping explain the remarkably preserved condition it enjoys today.
The current owner has added only about 60 miles during ownership while ensuring the Jeep was ready to be driven and enjoyed by completing several mechanical updates.
It's the kind of Wrangler enthusiasts hope they'll someday stumble across.
Condition
This Wrangler presents exceptionally well throughout.
The seller reports no known mechanical issues and states the Jeep has benefited from recent servicing that includes a new carburetor, new fuel pump, a complete tune-up, and replacement of the parking brake ratchet.
The body is reported to retain its original paint and to be completely rust free. The seller also notes that the Jeep has always been garage kept, contributing to its outstanding overall presentation.
Inside, the Gray interior remains remarkably well preserved. Even the factory cassette player and dash-mounted clock are reported to be fully functional, details that help reinforce the originality of this Islander.
A new soft top has also been installed, making the Jeep ready for its next owner to enjoy immediately.
Overall, this is an outstanding, highly original YJ that represents one of the cleanest Wrangler Islanders we've seen in quite some time.

Letter From The LMNM Team
The Jeep Wrangler has always been about freedom.
Top down.
Doors off.
No destination required.
The Islander package took that philosophy and wrapped it in one of the coolest color combinations Jeep ever offered.
Malibu Yellow has become instantly recognizable among Jeep enthusiasts. You don't even have to see the decals to know exactly what you're looking at.
What really impressed us about this one, though, wasn't just the color.
It was how untouched it feels.
Original paint.
A factory 5-speed.
The dependable 4.2-liter inline-six.
Even the little things that usually stop working decades later—like the dash clock and cassette player—still function.
That's the kind of originality we love finding.
Most Wranglers lived exactly the life they were built for. They were modified, lifted, wheeled hard, and enjoyed for decades. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But every now and then, one survives almost exactly as it left the factory.
This Islander is one of those Jeeps.
And finding another one in Malibu Yellow, showing just over 18,000 miles and preserved this well, is becoming harder with every passing year.
