21K-Mile 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
Overview
Description
There are Low Miles No Miles cars...and then there are the ones that remind you just how far ahead of their time they really were. This 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is one of those cars, showing just 21,270 miles and representing Ford's performance vision before the arrival of the legendary Turbo Coupe models that enthusiasts know today.
Vehicle Overview
Finished in Medium Regatta Blue Metallic over a Raven and Charcoal interior, this 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is powered by its original turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four paired with an automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows just 21,270 miles.
The Turbo Coupe quickly established itself as one of the most sophisticated American performance coupes of the era, blending turbocharged performance with everyday comfort and unmistakable Fox-platform styling.
According to the seller, this example retains its original paint and remains largely stock throughout. The only notable deviation from factory specification is a set of aftermarket wheels, which were installed by the selling dealer before the original owner took delivery. Ironically, the original owner specifically requested the wheel change because he disliked the factory wheels.
Story
This Thunderbird has a story that's every bit as interesting as the car itself.
According to the seller, the original owner spent his career working for Ford and helped design these very cars. Upon his retirement, he ordered this Turbo Coupe as a gift to himself, a fitting way to celebrate the end of a career spent helping build the Blue Oval.
Although he loved the car, there was one thing he couldn't live with.
The wheels.
Before taking delivery, he had the dealership replace the factory wheels with the aftermarket set that still accompanies the car today, making them a unique part of this Thunderbird's story from day one rather than a later modification.
The Thunderbird remained with its original owner for decades, spending its entire life in Michigan before eventually finding its way to the current selling dealer, who has added only about 100 miles during ownership.
Condition
This Turbo Coupe presents exceptionally well throughout.
The seller reports no known mechanical issues, and the car has recently received a comprehensive inspection along with fresh fluids.
The body is reported to retain its original paint and to be completely rust free. The exterior presents beautifully, while the Raven and Charcoal interior remains exceptionally well preserved and reflects the car's remarkably low mileage.
Overall, this is an outstanding example of an increasingly difficult Fox-platform Thunderbird to find, especially with its unique one-owner history and remarkable originality.

Letter From The LMNM Team
We love stories that you simply couldn't make up.
Imagine spending your career helping build a car...
Then retiring and ordering one for yourself as the reward.
That's exactly what happened here.
The original owner didn't just buy a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, he helped bring the program to life during his time at Ford. When retirement came, this was the car he chose to celebrate it.
We also couldn't help but smile at one small detail.
He loved the car...
But apparently he couldn't stand the factory wheels.
So before he even drove it home, the dealership installed a different set.
Those wheels have now become part of this Thunderbird's story for more than 40 years.
The Turbo Coupe has earned a loyal following because it represented something different. It wasn't about massive displacement or tire-smoking V8 power. Instead, Ford focused on technology, turbocharging, handling, and efficiency in a package that still looked sharp decades later.
Today, finding a Turbo Coupe with just over 21,000 miles is impressive.
Finding one with original paint, lifelong ownership, and a story like this is something else entirely.
It's exactly the kind of survivor we love sharing with the LMNM community.
