Description

There are Low Miles No Miles Fox Bodies…and then there are the ones most people have never even seen in person. This 1988 Ford Mustang ASC McLaren Convertible falls firmly into that category, showing just 1,253 miles and standing as what is believed to be one of the lowest-mile ASC McLaren Mustangs in existence.

Vehicle Overview

Finished in Sterling Silver over a gray ASC McLaren interior, this 1988 Mustang ASC McLaren is powered by its original 5.0L Windsor V8 paired with a Borg Warner T5 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The odometer currently shows just 1,253 miles, and the car remains remarkably original throughout.

This particular example is ASC McLaren #1559 and is one of only 1,806 ASC McLaren Mustangs produced between 1987 and 1990. According to the seller, it is also one of just 68 produced in Sterling Silver over gray.

Far more than a simple appearance package, ASC McLaren conversions involved substantial chassis and body modifications performed by American Sunroof Company under McLaren licensing. These cars began life as black Mustang LX models before being transformed with GT front clips, reinforced chassis components, custom interiors, revised convertible engineering, unique bodywork, and ASC-specific trim throughout.

Additional structural reinforcement included boxed chassis sections, reinforced doors, windshield frames, cowl structures, and re-engineered A-pillars featuring a more aggressive 20-degree rake. The cars also received custom McLaren wheels, revised suspension lowering the stance approximately 1.5 inches, specialized interiors, custom tonneau covers, and rear seat deletes to accommodate the unique top mechanism.

This example remains highly original, with the seller noting the only changes from original specification are replacement BFGoodrich tires in place of the factory Goodyears.

Story

This ASC McLaren has spent most of its life as part of private collections, a major reason it survives today in such preserved condition.

Originally sold new through a dealership in Tennessee, the car later became part of a collection in Georgia where it remained climate-controlled from 1988 through 2020. It was then relocated to California before eventually making its way to Nebraska and later to its current owner in 2026.

Throughout that time, the car accumulated remarkably few miles, with the current owner adding just 11 miles during ownership.

Cars like this were specialty vehicles from the beginning, and unlike typical Fox Bodies, many ASC McLarens were recognized early as collectible pieces worth preserving.

Condition

As expected for an ultra-low-mile collector example, the car presents exceptionally well throughout. The exterior retains its original paint with no reported history of bodywork, while the ASC McLaren-specific interior remains highly preserved and original.

The vehicle is reported to be completely rust-free and mechanically stock. Recent servicing includes an oil change completed in May 2026.

The only noted issue is that the air conditioning system is operational but currently does not blow cold and is believed to require a recharge.

Overall, this is an exceptionally original and highly preserved ASC McLaren Mustang that represents one of the rarest and most specialized variations of the Fox Body platform.

Letter From The LMNM Team

This is one of those cars where people either instantly understand it… or have absolutely no idea what they’re looking at.

And honestly, that’s part of what makes these ASC McLarens so cool.

Fox Body people already know how special notchbacks, SSPs, Saleens, and rare option cars have become, but the ASC McLaren cars live in an entirely different category. These weren’t just appearance packages or dealer add-ons. They were heavily re-engineered specialty cars built during one of the wildest periods of Mustang history.

The details on these are incredible once you start looking closely. The top mechanism, the reinforced chassis, the unique interiors, the bodywork, it’s all so much more involved than most people realize.

And then there’s the mileage.

Finding any ASC McLaren is difficult. Finding one this original, this preserved, and with this kind of mileage is something else entirely.

This feels less like a normal Fox Body and more like a forgotten specialty car from another era, which is exactly what it is.
