Description

There are Low Miles No Miles Fox Bodies…and then there are Saleen Fox Bodies. This 1988 Ford Mustang Saleen Hatchback, showing just 10,214 miles and documented as Saleen #88-008—making it the second retail Saleen produced for the 1988 model year.

Vehicle Overview

Finished in white over grey with rare white wheels, this Saleen stands apart not only for its condition, but for its documented significance. Powered by its original 5.0L (302ci) V8 paired with a manual transmission and 3.55 gearing, it delivers the raw Fox Body driving experience with early Saleen engineering.

This example remains highly original and unmodified throughout, featuring a rare and purpose-driven configuration. Optioned without air conditioning, with a factory sunroof and pinstripe delete, it is noted in the Saleen Registry as a one-of-one example. The car was originally ordered with performance in mind, including a factory radio delete as indicated on the window sticker. Supporting documentation is included, along with paperwork for the Pioneer radio currently installed.

Story

The story behind this car adds another layer to its appeal. Originally special-ordered alongside a matching Saleen by two friends, the cars took very different paths one becoming a race car, while this example was preserved.

The original owner drove it sparingly before selling in 1990. The second owner retained the car for nearly three decades, adding approximately 4,500 miles while maintaining its collector status. The current owner has added around 100 miles over the past three years.

That consistent pattern of careful ownership is reflected in both the miles shown and overall condition.

Condition

As expected for a well-preserved example, the car presents cleanly throughout. It retains its original engine and is reported to show no history of paintwork or rust.

Recent service completed in 2022 at 10,133 miles included fluid changes, a serpentine belt, and general maintenance. In 2023, a new Motorcraft battery and replacement tires were installed, with the original tires included in the sale.

Documentation is extensive and includes the original window sticker, Saleen order documents, Marti Report, warranty paperwork, and prior titles supporting both the car’s history and provenance.

Letter From The LMNM Team

Every once in a while a car comes through that everyone in the office gravitates toward and this is one of those cars.

It’s not just the miles or even the condition. It’s what the car represents. Early Saleen carried direct influence from Steve Saleen’s Racecraft program, built with a focus on real-world performance and driver feel.

What really stood out to us is the story. Two cars ordered together one used as intended, the other preserved. And this is the one that made it. That kind of history is something you can’t recreate.

We genuinely love this car. The spec, the documentation, the originality it checks every box. It’s the kind of piece that fits just as well in a serious collection as it does with someone who truly understands what it is.
